Irrigation in the Stage-I command area of the canal was introduced in the early 1960s. In contrast, entering the command area of Stage-II began receiving irrigation in the mid-1980s.

Beas Project
Contributory state:
Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana
According to the Erdai committee/Report, the Beas project provide 8.6 MAF(million-acre feet) water supplies to IGNP(Indira Gandhi Nahar Project)
The Beas Project has two units.
Unit-I(BSL Project)
The concept of the Beas-Satluj link for diverting some water of river Beas in the Satluj river through two tunnels and an open channel to generate power and to increase the storage capacity of the Bhakra reservoir (Gobind Sagar) was conceived by Dr A.N. Khosla, a brilliant engineer and dynamic leader in the profession and a close and trusted confidant of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Pong Dam is an Earth Core Gravel Shell type, and Power House is located in a stilling basin downside of six penstocks each of 5.025 m dia. The installed capacity of this powerhouse is 396 MW (6×66 MW).
Chambal Project
Contributory state:
Rajasthan
Madhya Pradesh
Rajasthan gets 193MW(50%) of electricity by this project.
Benefited district of Rajasthan are:
Kota, Baran and Bundi
The project completed in three phases in 1953-43
Phase 1
Gandhi Sagar Dam(Mandsaur, M.P)
Electricity generated capacity: 115MW
Kota Barrage Dam(Kota)
Phase 2
Rana Pratap Sagar Dam(Rawatbhata, Chittorgarh)

Contributory state:
Rajasthan
Gujarat
Rajasthan gets 45%(140MW) electricity by this project.
Benefited districts: Banswara and Dungarpur
Three dams constructed in this project
Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam(Borkheda)
Electricity generated capacity: 50MW and 90MW
Kagadi Pickup Dam(Kagadi, Banswara)
Kadana Dam(Mahisagar district, Gujarat)
Narmada Canal
The Narmada Canal brings water from Sardar Sarovar Dam(on river Narmada), travelling 458 Km in Gujarat, then Canal enters Rajasthan near Shilu(Tehsil-Sanchor), Jalore.
Rajasthan receives 0.5 MAF of water supplies by this project.
Main Canal Length
Gujarat = 458 Km
Rajasthan = 74 Km
Benefited districts: Jalore, Barmer(233 villages)
The Narmada canal has a few unique features compared to other projects:
Irrigation water is delivered to farmer groups via Water Users Associations (WUA), not individual farmers. WUAs are responsible for the operation and maintenance of field water canals.
Micro-irrigation systems such as drip and sprinklers to be encouraged for efficient water usage.
The first project of India having irrigation, mandatory by pressure (sprinkler) irrigation system.
Gang Canal
In 1899-1900, the Indian famine affected the Bikaner state. Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner laid down Gang Canal’s foundation in the princely state(presently district Ganganagar).
Now, the Gang canal provided irrigation facilities to the farmers of Ganganagar.
The Gang canal fed on the Sutlej river near Firozpur(Punjab), close to the India-Pakistan border.
Rajiv Gandhi Sidhmukh Nohar Project
Benefited District: Hanumangarh(Nohar and Bhadra Tehsil) and Churu(Rajgarh)
Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation stone on 5th October 1989 from Bhirani village near Bhadra.
The project received funding from the European Economic Community.
The flow of water in the canal system of the Sidhmukh Project under the rotation system of the Bhakra Beas Management Board started in May 2002. Still, the water was not being utilised for irrigation purpose due to non-completion of the micro-canalization survey, non-preparation of chak planning, and non-construction of watercourses.

Bisalpur Dam is a gravity dam on the Banas River near Deoli, Tonk.
The dam was completed in 1999 for irrigation and water supply.

The Bisalpur dam was constructed in the 1990s by the Rajasthan state government. During the construction, the people displaced by the dam protested against the state government’s rehabilitation and resettlement policy, calling it unjust.
The project was co-financed by the Asian Development Bank(ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA).
ADB financed the transmission system (including purification), while JICA financed the transfer system with an 8.88 billion yen 30-year loan at an interest rate of 1.3%.
Jhakam Project

Electricity generated capacity: 9MW
Sidhmukh Project
Benefited district: Hanumangarh and Churu
Parwan Dam Project
Parwan Dam Project is an under-construction dam project on the river Parwan in Jhalawar.
Dam construction started in December 2017.
Dholpur Lift Irrigation Project
The project is located in Tehsil Rajakhera of Dholpur District.
Dholpur lift irrigation project envisages water utilisation from Chambal River near Village “Sagarpara” on its left bank.
The lifted water will be used for irrigation through a network of lined canals covering the Rajakhera & Dholpur Tehsils.
It is proposed to make pressure irrigation (sprinkler irrigation) mandatory in the command area.
Rajasthan Water Sector Restructuring Project for Desert Area(RWSRPD)
Hanumangarh
IGNP, Stage-I infrastructure viz., Indira Gandhi feeder (IGF), Indira Gandhi main canal (IGMC) and its distribution network was developed, and the scheme was opened for irrigation and other use in October 1961; since then, the system has deteriorated due to ageing, opening up of masonry joints in burnt clay brick lining, excessive seepage and other reasons.
It is proposed to rehabilitate and re-line the canals under IGF, IGNP under Stage-I, and its entire distribution network under an ambitious programme of the Government of Rajasthan (GOR) Rajasthan Water Sector Restructuring Project for the Desert Area (RWSRPD) at the cost of Rs. 3291.63 crores.
The project is projected for funding from New Development Bank (NDB), with specific loan terms and agreements, scheduled progressing and timely completion of all project activities as planned tranche-wise.
